The Bulletin Board

Read this SHORT explanation, or go straight to The Bulletin Board

Why have a bulletin board?

It was a lot of work for one person to run the old Great Walk email system. The bulletin board was created because it will contact you by email automatically every time there is an update if you want it to. Otherwise, all you have to do is check in every once in a while to read up on many messages you used to receive by email.

It may not seem convenient to begin with, but using the bulletin board really does make life much easier for the person who used to have to moderate all the email in and out (OM to Michael!), so thanks for your cooperation.

Discussions about Great Walk issues, such as what we should do with the Great Walk bus or amendments to the Great Walk Constitution are another practical consideration that is dealt with very well by a bulletin board. The committee needs to make decisions that everyone can participate in.

Will I still receive Great Walk email?

Yes and no.

  • You will receive all email that pertains to a Walk, or Great Walk business, directly to your email box.
  • You won't receive personal invitations, updates to discussions about Great Walk issues (such as the constitution or the Great Walk bus), notices of items for sale, houses for rent or upcoming events other than Walks. All of this information is now on the bulletin board.

How do I use the Bulletin Board?
  • To read the bulletin board, all you have to do is click the link above or on the side menu bar and have a look.
  • To post on the bulletin board, you must register with a valid email address, go to that email address and click the link given to you in the registration email you will be sent as soon as you register.

It's that easy: just go to the bulletin board, register and then validate your account by clicking the link sent to you to get started.
  • If you still want to receive emails about social events, personal items for sale updates on any of the topics up for discussion on the bulletin board:
    • visit the bulletin board
    • log on
    • enter the forum you'd like updates for and the click the link that says *Watch this topic for replies."

Do this for every forum you are interested in watching, and you will then receive an email when there is an update to the forum.

How private is my personal information?

The board administrators (Michael and myself) can look up your member profile, but do not have access to your password: so even we cannot post for you. Please note that the only two fields you must complete are User Name and valid email address. You can share as much or as little of the rest of the personal information as you choose.

If you are very concerned about your privacy, it would be a good idea to make sure that you keep the default option of hiding your email address. People visiting the board could still contact you by using the private message option, but no one other than the board administrators would ever have access to your email address.

Can I have more detailed information, please?

Sure: read the LONG explanation here.
